Social Health Services for Older People by Sahaja Dharma Sejahtera Foundation

Intergenerational Action and Synergy

On Sunday (31/03/2024), coinciding with the first anniversary of the Sahaja Dharma Sejahtera Foundation, Social Service activities were held in Banjar Angligan, Timpag Village, Kerambitan District, Tabanan Regency. This social service activity presented several doctors and students from the Nursing Science Program at Institut Teknologi dan Kesehatan Bali (ITEKES Bali). The activity opened with remarks from Kelihan Banjar Angligan, which were then followed by remarks from Dr.dr.l Gusti Putu Suka Aryana, Sp.PD-KGer, as chairman of the Sahaja Foundation. The implementation of this social service took the form of counseling regarding personal hygiene as well as health checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, along with consultations by doctors.

This social service activity by the Sahaja Foundation was enthusiastically welcomed by local residents. A total of approximately 70 older people and pre-older people attended for free examinations at the Angligan Banjar Hall. Visits to homes of older people were also carried out for those who could not attend the Banjar hall due to mobility limitations such as difficulty walking or being unable to get out of bed.

Kelihan Banjar expressed his gratitude for the Sahaja Foundation’s visit to Banjar Angligan: “I represent all the community to express gratitude for conducting health social services in Banjar Angligan, and it has proceeded smoothly. Hopefully, events like this can be carried out sustainably.”

ITEKES Bali students who took part in social service activities also said they were very happy to help older people. When asked, one of the students, Erisma Prabandari, said, “The high enthusiasm of the residents makes us enthusiastic about carrying out health checks. Hopefully, this social service activity can continue in villages with minimal health facilities so that it can help residents obtain optimal health.”

The student, Angga Trisna Putra, also expressed his feelings of emotion and enthusiasm for taking part in caring for older people. “It’s touching to see the enthusiasm and joy that still radiates from the older people, even though age has limited them physically. Our presence as the younger generation at this event not only provides material assistance but also strengthens the sense of togetherness and warmth in the community. The message we want to convey to the older people is that they still have value and play an important role in society, and that they are not alone in their life journey.
