Community Services for Older People by Sahaja Bali Foundation

Intergenerational Action and Synergy

On Sunday (31/03/2024), coinciding with the first anniversary of the Sahaja Bali Foundation, a social service activity was held in Banjar Angligan, Timpag Village, Kerambitan District, Tabanan Regency. This activity featured several doctors and students from the Nursing Science Program at the Bali Institute of Technology and Health (ITEKES Bali). The event opened with remarks from the traditional community leader of Banjar Angligan, followed by a speech from Dr. dr. Gusti Putu Suka Aryana, Sp.PD-KGer, as Chairman of the Sahaja Bali Foundation.

The implementation of this social service activity included educational counseling on personal hygiene, health checks such as blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, and consultations with doctors.

This social service initiative by the Sahaja Bali Foundation was enthusiastically welcomed by local residents. Approximately 70 older people and pre-older people attended the event for free health examinations at the Banjar Angligan Hall. Home visits were also conducted for those who could not attend the venue due to mobility limitations, such as difficulty walking or being bedridden.

The traditional community leader expressed his gratitude for the Sahaja Bali Foundation’s visit to Banjar Angligan:
“I represent the entire community in expressing our heartfelt thanks for organizing this health social service in Banjar Angligan. The activity went smoothly, and we hope that events like this can continue in the future.”

Students from ITEKES Bali who participated in the activity also shared their joy in helping older people. When asked, one of the students, Erisma Prabandari, said:
“The high enthusiasm from the residents made us more motivated to carry out health checks. Hopefully, this social service activity can continue in other villages with limited access to health services so that more people can receive optimal care.”

Another student, Angga Trisna Putra, also expressed his emotional experience and enthusiasm in caring for older people:
“It’s touching to witness the spirit and joy that still shine from the older people, even though aging has brought physical limitations. Our presence as the younger generation not only provides health services but also brings warmth and a sense of togetherness to the community. The message we want to convey is that older people still have great value and play an important role in society. They are not alone in their life journey.”
