Sahaja Kelana in Klumpu Village, Nusa Penida: Spreading Care and Compassion

On August 9, 2025, the Sahaja Kelana team continued its journey of social service by visiting Klumpu Village, Nusa Penida. The activity brought together the core team and volunteers who shared the same spirit of compassion and dedication to serving the local community.

About Klumpu Village

Klumpu Village is located in the central part of Nusa Penida Island, Klungkung Regency, Bali. The area is characterized by hilly terrain and challenging road access, particularly to several remote hamlets. Most of its residents work in traditional farming and fishing, with limited access to healthcare facilities and a considerable distance to the nearest medical centers.

Why Klumpu Village Was Chosen

Klumpu Village was selected as the project site because it is one of the areas in Nusa Penida with limited access to healthcare services and a significant number of older adults living in vulnerable conditions, both economically and physically. Some of these older individuals live alone or rely heavily on neighbors and family members for support, making them more susceptible to neglect and health issues.

This activity also served as an opportunity for collaboration with Udayana University students currently participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) in the same village. Through this partnership, the program aimed to strengthen student involvement in community empowerment and ensure that the initiative delivers a lasting positive impact.

Series of Activities

On the day before the event, the Sahaja Kelana team held a coordination and briefing session with the KKN students to discuss the event plan and ensure smooth implementation.

The main activity took place at the Balai Subak of Klumpu Village, serving as the center for free health services for the local community. These services included general health check-ups, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, and medical consultations. The activities were conducted in collaboration with the healthcare team from UPTD Puskesmas Nusa Penida III and an internal medicine specialist from Gema Santi Hospital.

In addition to the community health service, the team carried out home visits to eight selected older adults identified as underprivileged, neglected, or having difficulty with mobility. During these visits, the team provided direct medical assessments, basic assistance, and emotional support to help improve their health and overall well-being.

Building Bridges of Compassion

Through this initiative in Klumpu Village, Sahaja Kelana reaffirmed its commitment to reaching underserved communities, especially vulnerable older adults in remote areas. More than just providing healthcare, this program became a bridge of compassion that connected healthcare professionals, university students, and local residents in a shared spirit of humanity.

With a sincere heart and the spirit of collaboration, Sahaja Kelana continues its journey across islands—spreading hope, compassion, and meaningful change in every village it visits.
